“What kind of army outfit is that?” the clerk asked as he rang up Amber, who was dressed in desert-brown combat boots, green leg warmers, a forest-green camo-pattern nurse uniform top, and a brown leather bomber jacket. Her straight purple hair was combed to the right and over both ears. With a small waist and large hips, she made the outfit pop. Her expression was soft but serious as she looked at the clerk.
“I’m a combat nurse,” Amber said, knowing exactly what the clerk wanted.
He was tall, muscular, and good-looking. He smiled at her with pearly whites, his broad shoulders doing all the work. She looked down and noticed he didn’t skip leg day like most, and, well, something else.
“See something down there you like?” He smiled. “Something you would like to nurse?”
Amber smiled back and plainly said, “You wouldn’t handle me.”
“Oh, milady, does thou underestimate me?”
Amber giggled and thought about whether she should give this playboy a chance. It had been a while since she had any company.
CRASH!
Two armed men burst through the door.
“Anybody move, they get pumped full of holes!”
The other one fired several rounds, and everyone in the store ducked. Everyone but Amber. The clerk looked up at her.
“Don’t be Wonder Woman. Get down,” the clerk whispered, caution in his voice.
“Well, I’m no Wonder Woman, but it’s a shame you have to watch me work from down there. I like my men brave.”
She looked at the two gunmen, who trained their guns on her. She could see their eyes—frowning and focused. The store was quiet.
“Girl, we are not playing! Get your ass down!”
“Everyone, take out your money and put it on the ground!”
The taller man crept around. He wore a black long-sleeved shirt, pants, shoes, and a ski mask. His blue eyes contrasted with his dark skin. Amber noticed the shorter one was pudgy and had a high-pitched, feminine voice. She noticed him checking her out while trying to secure his side of the store.
“That’s a shame. I like playing this game,” Amber said with a little sarcasm.
She opened the two buttons around her navel, exposing her medium-brown skin.
“Hey, what—what are you doing?” the pudgy one asked nervously.
“Bruh, look at this hoe already tipping for us. Maybe we should take her with us.”
The tall one quickly walked backward to join the pudgy one, keeping his eyes on the other customers while also taking long looks at Amber’s navel.
“And you can tell she got a fatty. Come here, babe, and back it up on me.”
“No, me!” the taller one said, taking a shot at a register, scaring the others into screaming before they crouched down and shut up again.
Amber’s irises and pupils turned purple as her stomach lit up. Little beads of gold shot from the glowing area, leaving dots of fresh blood.
The robot Doll had a skinny frame. Her legs were shaped like airplane wings. The back of her neck looked like the front of a jet. The robot’s face looked like Amber’s, as if they were twins. Her orange metallic hair formed a side ponytail. Her big purple eyes glowed, but her expression seemed tired as she yawned.
“Ah, man. I didn’t get much sleep.”
