The Objective
When I wrote the rough draft of Favor of Athena, my primary objective was to grab the reader’s attention and create a cliffhanger that would make them want to turn the page.
The story combines mystery and fantasy, bringing Greek mythology into a story about investigation, secrets, and danger.
The Characters
The opening scene features two central characters:
- Aries: The Greek god of war.
- Athena: The Greek goddess of wisdom.
The Setting
The scene takes place in a cemetery, where Aries and Athena are attending the funeral of a deceased family.
I wanted this setting to establish a serious atmosphere while creating an opportunity for the mystery to unfold.
Developing the Antagonist
When I wrote the rough draft, my antagonist was influenced by two major elements from Dexter:
- Season 4 — The Trinity Killer: This influenced the antagonist’s methodology and modus operandi.
- Season 5 — The Barrel Girl Gang: This inspired the gang element and helped connect the antagonist to the title Lust.
The antagonist’s name was inspired by an older story I had read.
I also wanted to incorporate elements of criminal investigation into the writing. Researching investigative methods helped me think about how the antagonist’s actions, patterns, and identity could become part of the mystery.
These influences helped shape the early version of the antagonist, although the character’s development continues as I work on the story.
The Writing Process
This page represents part of the early development of Favor of Athena. My goal was to establish the genre, introduce the characters, and create enough intrigue to keep the reader engaged.
I’m continuing to refine the script, improve the pacing, and develop the mystery behind the story.
