SportsSlam Vol 1: Chapter 11

Are you sure you want to confront him? I mean, you haven’t talked to your brother in years.” Apollo asked, his hands behind his head as he whistled down the alley. The skyline was breaking in with shades of grey as the daybreak was approaching. Some of the lights started to turn off, leaving the alley weirdly dimly lit. Kaitlyn could smell the morning dew mixed with the awful smells of garbage as she marched toward the Gridoron club.  The club was two floors high and modern. Shaped like a mini football stadium.  Patrons were still leaving the club, stumbling to their cars and taxis to get ready for the workday.

“How else are we going to find out what happened?” Kaitlyn snapped with a grin on her face. “My brother may have been the last person to see Dr. Ray, so it only makes sense to beat it out of him. She quickened her pace to make sure that they got there before the club locked the doors. Her heart racing due to the confrontation she knew was coming. The cold air bites her, only to be met with the hotness of her skin.

Her mind tried to keep up with her body, but her memory kept going back to two years ago. She was in juvie along with her crew of thieves.  Despite being lower-class high school students, they were, in her opinion, the best thieves to ever come together. Their android abilities granted them what would be peak human abilities in reflexes, coordination, and physiologically. Juvie was horrible, but easy as they could easily defend themselves. But the hard part was only getting weekly visits from her dad…until he was killed. Flint had seen the whole thing. and blamed Kailtyn for not being there when she was released to their foster mother.

“You don’t mean you’re going to really fight him, do you?” Aira, with a Puerto Rican accent, asked gently. Her voice was calm like the streets. “That isn’t going to get us anywhere.”

“I suggest you speak when spoken to. I still don’t want you around us. So don’t let this truce fool you into thinking we can ever be close again, traitor.” Kaitlyn didn’t mince her words and wanted Aira to hurt as badly as she was.

“You know, I’m getting tired of your little threats.” Aira kept her tone the same, which impressed Kaitlyn.

“Ladies, ladies, ladies. Let’s focus on making sure we get through the doors before they close. It’s almost a quarter till 5, and if they are like our clubs, you know they are kicking the last call.” Apollo interjected. ””’

“I told you about calling me a lady!” Kaitlyn kicked the doors open into the club. No customers were present, but the staff almost broke their necks to look at her. Standing in the middle of the dance floor, she knew it was him. His back turned, but the rsadm bright red hair she had was on the young man on the dance floor. She swallowed in anticipation and popped a fresh stick of gum into her mouth. Flint turned around, the last to acknowledge their presence.

Despite being 18 and twins, Kaitlyn admired her twins’ height and size.  HE was taller than most adult teachers, and his bulk made him look like an offensive lineman. He wore a blue unzipped football-style hoodie with his rugby jersey over denim shorts. The shoulders of his hoodie had tassels that looked like the ones you see on colonial officers’ uniforms..His legs were wrapped in bandages, and he had a bandaid over his right eye.  The gloves he wore had metal studs.  Black sneakers complete his outfit .

“Have you ever heard of knocking, my dear sister? His voice was deep but loud. Full of confidence, something that she knew they never lacked. She felt a sense of pride and love, but his eyes. His eye made her remember that there was no forgiveness. Her own anger started to boil looking at him, and she could see him trying to match hers. Her breathing was steady as she focused on the objective, holding the violence at bay, but boy, did she want to remind him who the older twin was.

“Have you ever heard of calling your family?” Kaitlyn shot back, dashing the football-shaped dance floor. It was elevated a foot above the rest of the club.

“Family, you mean, the one you abandon for your stupid Robin Hood gang?” He gestured to her to come to him. She could hear Apollo and Airia calling out her name, but she ignored them as she dodged and jumped over the club staff trying to stop her.

“I didn’t abandon anyone.”

“You abandon DAD!” he yelled as he settled into a three-point stance. “And now you think we’re cool?

Kaitlyn noticed as she hopped up onto the dancefloor that a steel orange cage serpented and surrounded them. Flint shot towards her at full speed, his hood flopping onto his head from the motion as the metal studs on the hood expanded into a football helmet. Kaitlyn smiled and dodged between his legs.  and started to dance back and forth.

“That’s all you got? Lil bro? she spat her gum out and smacked it toward him as he turned. Hitting him right in the eye. She could see his eyes as they squinted full of rage, bright. He made a punching motion with his hand, and the stud dislodged and shot toward her in a fist formation. She dodged that tool by doing a backflip, but as she recovered, he tackled her to the ground.

“I don’t see you smiling now, huh, sis? The stud came back to hover around his hand, forming a rugby ball formation this time.  “I should drill into your head. But mom woou=-” Kaitlyn kicked her brother in the balls with her knee, causing him to scream, but also doubled over to his side.

“Be you didn’t see that?” She mounted him and went into a ground and pound strikes. His face started to open up, lacerations letting blood loose. She could see him trying to protect himself, but she was the faster of the two.

“Did you see Dr. Ray the other night?

“Why should I tell you?” He grabbed her wrist, and Kailtyn immediately froze. His strength was as strong as a mountain.  She could see through his bloodied face and black eye that he was done playing with her.  he moved one of her wrists into his other hand as he rolled her onto her side and stood up, holding her with one hand slightly above the ground. His strength frighetneig

“Because he’s missing!”

“He studied her and looked around. Sehe was trying to figure out if this was good or bad, so he took the time to think.   But as she held her, she swung her foot.  The studs on her feet formed a cleat-like projection that extended into his chest, knocking him onto his butt backward, sever veet. She landed with perfect grace as she used the studs to propel her to him, fliggpin all the while.

His studs form larger hands formatin aroudn him and caugh herand threw her up into the air. and she could see on his face that he messed up.  Panic crept onto those wounded eysas her studes form into long spikes as she shot down to him faster than he could react. slaming ing into the ground crating such force that he tripped backward off the dance floor.

“DAMAN it” he yelled in frustration. “That doesn’t count.”

“It does, and you know it. You started this fight…I finished it.
