In this video, I’m taking the reins and working on the cover for Revolutionary 1 — one of our most powerful stories yet. While my artist is cooking up the other covers, I wanted to personally bring this one to life. You’ll see my initial pencil sketch, hear about the story inspiration, and watch me digitally draw the final cover in Adobe Photoshop.
Revolutionary 1 is a superhero historical fiction with a twist — think Fate/Stay Night meets X-Men, The Patriot, Aladdin, and a dash of Pokémon magic. The story follows Lonnie, a Black preteen dealing with the fallout of his parents’ divorce, who gets swept into a secret magical society that spans past and present. It’s an isekai, magical fantasy adventure rooted in Yoruba mythology, Black culture, and colonial American history.
This series is deeply personal — inspired by my own experience growing up in a divorced household — and it’s part of the Bee Terrific shared universe.
