Khalil Abdullah Andrew Anderson had a lot to say for someone who barely passed his Gen-flow assessment.

“This village got no style,” he muttered, adjusting the gold-tasseled scarf wrapped around his arm. “Where’s the swagger? The drama? The excitement?”

“You mean chaos,” said Amya’Rose Mack, her gaze locked on the gate ahead. The wind sang through the tall reeds of Lowwind Village, a mid-tier outpost of the Flow Arts Union. She tucked her hair into a ponytail and flicked a pebble off the trail with her foot. “Focus, Khalil. We’re about to be evaluated by a High Watcher.”

“You focus. I’m busy cultivating main character energy.”

Zayden Cotman grunted behind them. “He’s got that delusional confidence style.”

“‘Delusional Confidence’ is actually one of the Six Inner Threads,” Khalil shot back, grinning. “Chapter 3, Line 12.”

Zayden frowned. “That’s not—wait, is it?”

Ahead, the Gate of Lowwind shimmered. Built from twisted bark and suspended in the air by pure resonance energy, it pulsed like a heartbeat. Only those with attuned flow signatures could pass through. The team had to demonstrate synchronized channeling — a rare technique.

They each pressed a palm to the air.

Khalil’s fingers sparked first — wild and flashy, but barely stable.

Amya’Rose breathed deep. Her energy settled calm and even, like silk across glass.

Zayden’s pulse was solid, grounded. He anchored the triad.

The gate flickered.

Then opened.

Inside, the village was quiet but watching. Always watching. Flow-wraiths clung to the rooftops like shadows, remnants of past conflicts. The trio stepped in, trying not to show nerves. A cloaked figure approached: Watcher Nyma, head wrapped in crystalline cloth.

“Three new coils,” Nyma said, her voice layered with resonance. “Speak your flows.”

“Khalil Abdullah Andrew Anderson. Flow type: Chaotic Harmony. Specialty: Vibe Disruption.”

“Zayden Cotman. Flow type: Earthroot. Specialty: Defensive pulse waves.”

“Amya’Rose Mack. Flow type: Spirit String. Specialty: Channel binding and redirection.”

Nyma tilted her head, sensing beneath the surface. “You — Khalil. You wear bravado like armor. But your center trembles.”

Khalil’s grin slipped for a second. “I, uh, like to keep things interesting.”

“Then you’ll enjoy this,” Nyma said. “Your test is live. An unscheduled disruption has breached the southern reedline. Flow-wraiths are forming. You’ll protect the inner gate. Together.”

They blinked.

“No prep? No plan?” Amya’Rose asked.

Khalil cracked his knuckles. “Finally.”

They dashed toward the reedline. Flow surged in their bones, burning bright. Whatever was waiting on the other side, they’d meet it as a unit — dysfunctional, messy, but united.

This was Team Resonance.

And their story had just begun.
