Every story has its foundation, and for me, Favor of Athena has always been a comic first. Now, as I revisit and expand the story, I’m making some key decisions to honor its origins while adapting it for new formats. Here’s what’s next.

Why the Comic Comes First

When Favor of Athena was first conceived, it was always meant to be a comic. The visuals, the pacing, the action—it all began with the intention of bringing this story to life through sequential art. Over time, as the story grew, it expanded into a novel format, but deep down, the comic remains the heart of the project.

That’s why I’ve decided to focus on completing Issues 3 and 4 of the comic this month. These issues continue the journey started in Issues 1 and 2, introducing new scenes and characters while driving the story forward. The novel will remain as the adaptation, providing a deeper exploration of the comic’s world and characters.

Balancing Two Mediums

Working on both the comic and the novel is no small task. Each medium brings its own challenges and opportunities. The comic focuses on visual storytelling, where the action and emotion are conveyed through art and dialogue. The novel, on the other hand, offers the chance to dive deeper into character thoughts, backstory, and worldbuilding.

For this rewrite, the light novel will follow the comic’s lead, expanding on the same core story while offering readers a richer, more introspective experience. The novel’s chapters are mostly written and just need polishing as I draft the next scenes for both formats.

Teaching Along the Way

As I work on Favor of Athena, I’ve also been thinking about sharing what I’ve learned. Teaching screenwriting for comics is something I’ve been considering—though I’m not making any promises just yet! The process of breaking down scenes, crafting dialogue, and pacing a story for visuals has taught me so much, and it’s something I’d love to pass on when the time is right.

Looking Ahead

I’m about nine days behind my ideal schedule, but that’s okay. Creativity isn’t always linear, and the chapters and issues I’ve planned are taking shape. Page 1 of Favor of Athena Issue 1 sets the tone, and it’s exciting to revisit it now as I build on what’s already there.

This month is about staying focused, honoring the story’s roots, and pushing forward with the next steps. Whether it’s polishing chapters for the light novel or drafting the next scenes for the comic, I’m committed to making Favor of Athena the best it can be.

Final Thoughts

Returning to the core of Favor of Athena as a comic feels like coming home. It’s a reminder of why I started this journey in the first place. As the story continues to evolve across both mediums, I hope it will resonate with readers who love action, mystery, and heartfelt stories as much as I do.

Thank you for following along. Whether you’re a fan of comics, novels, or both, I’m excited to share the next chapters and issues of Favor of Athena with you soon. Stay tuned for updates—and maybe even some tips on comic screenwriting along the way!

Let’s keep creating.
