Okay, this will be a free post for my free members. I will be using various Save the Cat materials as tools. Today, I want to talk about one of the beats and how it’s actually a foundation for my writing.
The theme stated beat is tied to the b-story. It’s basically what the main story is really about, what really hook us into the characters.
For me, I use bible verses connect to a theme. These themes are available in Jessica Brody’s Save the Cat! Writes a Novel.
For example, for Favor of Athena: Lust, the theme is Forgiveness (everybody needs it in this story lol), but the bible verse I’m using summarize forgiveness as We must forgive others (Matthew 6:14-15).
I use this as my premise so that my protagonists and antagonist have an inner conflict in addition to their external conflict.
Premise: We must forgive others
Athena: goes from self-blame to forgiving
Athena goals: To catch the murderer.
Persephone goals: To achieve her freedom.
Persephone: has the opportunity to go from vengeful to forgiving
This helps give both my characters a feelings, a problem, and a want that the audience can relate to or at the very least support and cheer on.
This is how I try to write all my stories, by incorporating my faith into the themes that can also be found in the Bible.
